Listen to the audio version of this article (summarised by OwO GPT)

Hey there, and welcome to a community where you’ll regularly have what I call your most important affiliate marketing conversations – the Commission Club. This is where we support your growth and experience as you build your affiliate business.

If you’re reading this, you have probably just completed the Zero to Commission Affiliate Marketing Course for beginners, and you’re probably wondering, Okay, what’s next?

affiliate marketing

Well, first off, congratulations. You now know more about affiliate marketing than ninety percent of people trying to make money online.

But here’s the thing, knowing and doing are two completely different things.

So first, I want you to bookmark this page if you’re reading, so you can come back to it to be inspired and set on the right path in earning consistent commissions.

This is going to serve as your direct guide and roadmap to earn your first million in commissions, after which I don’t think a millionaire that took action will need any more advise 😉

Understanding Where You Are Right Now

As a beginner getting started, I understand how uneasy it might be to start selling and recommending offers for the first time.

But keep this in mind: the day you finally learn how to implement this skill properly, you’ll be able to influence brands, creators, and businesses to pay you weekly “legally” and you’ll completely transform your relationship with money.

As an affiliate, you understand that the easiest way to achieve this is through understanding sales.

And as you just found out from the course, you can be an affiliate for any business.

However, in my many years of teaching new affiliates, I’ve watched thousands of people go through courses just like the one you completed.

And here’s what I noticed: most people get excited, they learn the basics, and then they just… stop.

They don’t know what to do next.

Addressing Your Biggest Fears First

You just learned about affiliate marketing, and you want to take your first real steps toward making money online.

But first I need to address some fears that almost every affiliate faces, and the biggest one is lack of patience.

Impatience can make you susceptible to really bad decisions. Like shiny object syndrome and promoting bad offers.

Most importantly stay away from promoting offers that are clear scams – example offers claiming thirty percent monthly profit or promising one hundred percent magic money returns. Let me be crystal clear with you: these do not exist.

Value must be created to make money.

This is a basic rule of economics, and no amount of wishful thinking is going to change that.

So do not let lack of patience ruin your focus. You just learned a valuable skill, and yes, you can make money from it immediately, but you need to approach this with caution and wisdom.

Learning From My Personal Journey

You need to understand that you’re working with two main things always as an affiliate your audience and your offer.

Let me give you a personal example that might help this make sense.

When I first started working online, I was writing blog posts.

The companies I worked under in the entertainment niche were very popular. We were pulling almost one hundred thousand page views per day. But after seeing the same blog design every single day, I started to hate how it looked.

So you know what I did?

I learned web design. I improved our blog design, and something interesting happened.

Readers would email occassionally asking who did our design because they wanted the same thing for their own websites.

From this, they started paying me for web design services.

Now, I originally started blogging because I wanted to make money from AdSense early 2014.

Inspired by bloggers like ShoeMoney.com

But soon enough, I found myself with a new skill web design and readers who became customers and even affiliates because they would recommend my services to other bloggers.

Everyone was happy.

I’m sharing this example because there’s a crucial decision every new affiliate must make, and most don’t realize how significantly it impacts their long-term success.

You see, right now you face two distinct paths, each with very different outcomes.

affiliate marketer

The first path is what I call the “Affiliate Teaching Affiliate” model.

This is where you learn affiliate marketing and then target other aspiring affiliates who want to learn the same skills.

While this can work, it puts you in an oversaturated market competing against hundred of others with identical messaging.

You become just another voice in a very crowded room, and new prospects often view you with skepticism because they can’t distinguish you from the countless others making similar claims.

The second path is what I call the “Expertise-Driven Affiliate” model.

This is where you combine affiliate marketing with a valuable skill, expertise, or unique perspective you can offer.

This is the path I strongly recommend for long-term success, and I’ll tell you why.

You see, affiliate marketing, at its core, is sales and relationship building.

When you choose the first path, targeting other affiliate marketers – you’re essentially competing in a market where everyone is trying to sell the same dream to the same audience. The trust barrier becomes extremely high because your prospects have heard similar promises from dozens of others before you.

However, when you position yourself as an expert in a specific field who happens to recommend relevant products, you immediately differentiate yourself.

You’re not just another affiliate, you’re a trusted advisor with genuine expertise.

Making the First Path Work If You Choose It

Now, I want to be fair, some marketers have found success with the first approach. They’ve built audiences by creating highly engaging content that generates strong emotional responses, or by leveraging social proof and community dynamics.

If you choose to focus on the affiliate marketing education space, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it. The right way involves becoming a genuine educator who truly helps people succeed. You must ensure your audience genuinely understands the strategies you’re teaching and can implement them effectively. Your reputation is everything in this business, and any shortcuts or misleading claims will eventually destroy the trust you’ve worked hard to build.

The foundation of sustainable success in any niche is authenticity combined with real value.

Focus on being genuinely helpful, educational, and relatable.

Share personal insights and experiences that resonate with your specific audience, but always ensure that what you’re recommending truly serves their best interests, not just your commission potential.

Why the Expertise-Driven Path Works Better

However, when you choose the expertise-driven path, working in a niche where you have genuine knowledge or skills to offer, the dynamics change completely.

This approach naturally comes with less resistance and more credibility.

Why?

Because you’re speaking from experience, and your audience can sense that authenticity.

You’re attracting people who are already seeking solutions in your area of expertise, which means they’re pre-qualified prospects rather than skeptical opportunity seekers.

Let me give you a perfect example of this working in real time.

The Nigerian health educator known as Aproko Doctor has consistently shared valuable health advice with his audience for the past two years.

influencer affiliate marketing

He’s built an engaged community of over four hundred and forty thousand subscribers on YouTube, with millions on social media who now trust his expertise.

To further drive this example, he posted a single video that generated over three hundred and fifty thousand views titled “how to grow your hairline fast.”

affiliate marketing offer

This video reached this three hundred thousand views in six days because of credibility, consistency, and trust from an audience that values his information, which he shares in an entertaining format embracing the brand “Aproko Doctor.”

For this video, a health supplement offer could easily be added as a call-to-action to educational content like this, causing his commission or sales, if it’s a personal business to instantly skyrocket.

This is the power of expertise-driven affiliate marketing. When you have genuine credibility in your field, your recommendations carry weight, your audience trusts your judgment, and your conversion rates reflect that trust.

A creator with credibility and trust like him would convert anywhere from one to five percent of his engagement into actual sales.

That’s the power of established expertise.

Alex Hormozi is another perfect example of this strategy in action. He spent years providing tons of free content, consistently building trust and authority in the business space.

When it was finally time to launch his paid offerings, he generated over one hundred and fifty million dollars in sales. You can read more about that here >> $150 Million In 3 Days By Alex Hormozi

How Society Already Accepts This Model

Here’s something that might surprise you almost every industry already operates on this expertise-driven affiliate model, and society completely accepts it. Think about it.

  • Doctors regularly recommend specific pharmaceutical brands and medical devices. They earn consulting fees and speaking honorariums from these companies.
  • Mechanics recommend particular car brands, motor oils, and automotive products to their customers.
  • Web designers consistently suggest specific hosting companies, domain providers, and template marketplaces.
  • Real estate agents partner with property developers.

All of these professionals do this successfully, earn substantial commissions and rewards, and everyone respects them for it. Why?

Because they’re leveraging their expertise to help people make better decisions.

They’re providing genuine value first, and the financial rewards follow naturally.

This is the key insight: when you want to build a sustainable affiliate business that commands respect, you must offer genuine value and demonstrate real expertise. It all comes back to the fundamental economics of supply and demand.

Your Action Plan: Choose Your Path

So here’s what I recommend. Since I never advise that paid advertising should be your first step, I want you to look inward and choose a niche based on your existing knowledge or interests. Ask yourself this critical question: are you ready to commit to building expertise in this area for at least two years?

Here’s why timing matters. You need to give any business you start at least three years to really succeed.

For digital businesses, you can typically see real traction within two years. The good news is that this skill, built around your expertise, can easily be maintained as a side hustle while you’re building it.

Make this decision quickly, because taking action is your first real step forward, Although most people do not know this but preparation procrastination is very real.

You could spend an entire year reading and learning about something, or you could spend that same year taking action, making mistakes, but learning through actual experience.

Both approaches take exactly the same amount of time, but only one actually moves you toward your goals.

Developing Your Superpower

Nothing worthwhile is ever easy, but everyone you admire has gone through this and developed what I call a superpower to tackle hurdles. It could be a professional persona or a version of themselves that they believe can achieve anything through their expert skills.

You need to work on becoming this version of yourself as you take action in becoming an expert in a field and creating content around that field.

affiliate marketing

Now, when it comes to creating content as an expert in your field, you only need to master four key elements.

First: The Hook

Imagine you have exactly five seconds to explain something crucial to your best friend over the phone. Maybe they’re on a game show and need the right answer to win a cash prize.

hook audience as affiliate

This is the basis of your thought process when coming up with the first sentence in your copy. This has been mastered by every creator that is successful. So your mindset has to learn to be ready to fight for attention while providing immediate value.

With the help of AI writing tools like ChatGPT and our Zero to Commission Newsletter resources, you’ll get access to hooks that have already proven to work, with A.I letting you repurpose them for a new audience.

Second: The Story

Once you’ve grabbed your audience’s attention, you need to learn how to tell compelling stories. Remember, the next TikTok or Instagram reel is just one swipe away, and it might have an even more interesting story than what your viewer is currently watching. So how do you keep them engaged?

By improving your storytelling and copywriting skills. (I recommend you read only this book “The Adweek Copywriting Handbook”)

You need to get better at how you express yourself and how people respond to your message.

Social media algorithms are actually designed to promote good content to the right audience.

The algorithm doesn’t hate you or hide your videos so you do not go viral – it just needs your content to prove that your story resonates with viewers.

How do you do this?

By triggering emotions that cause people to watch video longer, like, comment, or share with their friends.

When this happens, the algorithm thinks, “If this audience liked this content and engaged with it, maybe I should show it to more people like them.”

That’s how you create viral content that spreads across social media.

Third: The Call to Action

As an affiliate, this is absolutely critical. You’re telling your viewers what to do next, and you’re still competing for their attention and the next click. Your call to action doesn’t always need to be a direct sales pitch. It can be a simple request asking the reader to follow you after sharing valuable educational content.

But always ensure that every piece of content you create triggers some kind of action.

For broader reach, you can even design what you want people to say in your comment section.

It can be something relatable, something they might disagree with, or something that triggers a share.

You must design the outcome you want in a way that mimics your viewers’ natural experience and makes them care enough to engage with your call to action.

Fourth: Consistency

By now, I hope you understand the importance of patience, commitment, learning a skill, and starting to share content.

Don’t be afraid that you’re going to struggle with it in the first year. You might even want to quit sometimes, and that’s completely normal.

Instead of quitting, just keep posting and sharing valuable content on whatever platform your target audience uses most.

Continue to improve as you also need to understand your audience deeply inother to create content that will cause engagement. Example

  • What are their demographics?
  • Where are they located?
  • What are their interests and worries?
  • What topics do they care about most?
  • Which social media platforms do they spend their time on?
  • You absolutely need to know these things.

Use our case studies to learn how to attract your audience and convert audiences. Through the newsletter, we share breakdowns of successful viral campaigns, and you can use these insights to learn strategies for going viral with your own content.

Start with sharing value consistently about eighty percent of the time using different strategies you’re testing.

Don’t be afraid to use AI tools to help you create content more efficiently. Then share your offers you would earn commission on about twenty percent of the time, packaging whatever you’re promoting in an attractive way that makes people genuinely want to buy.

When you find a content format that starts going viral, double down on it immediately. Once you’ve proven what works organically and you’re consistently sharing value, begin promoting relevant offers to earn your commissions.

Then scale everything with paid advertising.
